2023 Manifesto Launch

Liverpool Lib Dems launch Manifesto with an attack on Labour’s unlucky thirteen years of control.
Liverpool’s Liberal Democrat Leader, Cllr Richard Kemp, has launched his Party’s manifesto in Liverpool with a hard-hitting attack on the last 13 years of Labour control of the city.
Cllr Kemp said, “a manifesto is usually all about what a political party wants to do to change things. We have needed to devote a lot of this manifesto in showing how we will get the council sufficiently well led and well managed to be able to deliver anything.
Liverpool’s inexperienced cabinet has provided little real leadership in moving the council and the city forward. Internally they have imported a lot of interim managers, consultants, and advisers to change how the City Council works.
Externally we have no idea of where Labour wants the city to go and what it will look like. Their manifesto did little more than the Cabinet has done over the past two years to set out a compelling vision for the city.”
“By contrast the Liberal Democrats are setting out a manifesto which deals with its proposals in three parts. The immediate things that can be delivered in the first year; the work that can be done up to the next elections in 2027; and the work that will take longer in terms of creating in Liverpool the finest regional city in Europe.
“The manifesto shows these priorities in its title, “A clean council delivering a clean city.” Its ‘six to fix’ key themes are: A council that gets the basics right; Caring for our environment; Delivering value for money; Protecting our communities; Attract back jobs & investment; Being honest, transparent, and listening.
“Some say that 13 is an unlucky number” concluded Cllr Kemp. “Well, it certainly has been in the 13 years that Labour has controlled our council. They have trashed our finances and shredded our reputation. As we have done twice in the past 50 years, we will rescue our city and create the sort of momentum for the city that we did when we successfully created a new image and a new reality for the city through the European Capital of Culture delivery and tens of thousands of jobs, housing improvements and educational attainment increases.
What we have done before we can do again. We stand ready and are willing and able to take this city forward.”
There are two versions of the manifesto. An easy read section which sets out the main objectives and a longer read one which sets out in greater detail how those objectives will be delivered.
