RESIDENTS WITH GREEN BINS ARE BEING SHORT-CHANGED AS COLLECTIONS END LATER THIS MONTH
A south Liverpool councillor says residents are being short-changed after it was revealed green bin collections are finishing earlier than expected.
Councillor Richard Clein, who represents Grassendale & Cressington ward, says the Council has changed its own website to hide the cuts to Green Waste collections.
The service, which costs £50 a year, was set to finish on the 2nd December, but now the last actual collection is the 18th of November.
Cllr Clein said:
"I’ve had it confirmed that the council isn’t going ahead with the 2nd of December collection as originally stated on their website. In fact, they’ve now changed the information to say November 18th, hoping residents won’t notice.
"They’ve even changed the terms and conditions, which used to say the council “aims to provide” 22 collections to just 20.
“It was the same last year, so it begs the question as to why the council is promising a service it isn’t delivering and which residents are expecting.
“As the Liberal Democrats neighbourhoods spokesman in 2022, I opposed the then introduction of the tax, saying it was doomed to fail.
“The fact that the recycling rate, which is still the second worst in the country, hasn’t improved, or the £1.7m of savings predicted haven’t materialised, suggests my prediction was correct.
“With people putting green waste in purple bins causing an increase in landfill charges, crews having to make additional journeys to go back out and collect missed bins, as well as stickers having to be sent out again, it’s no wonder the savings haven’t been achieved.
“The Liberal Democrats are on course to take control of the council in 2027, and we’re confident that our financial competence will mean people in Liverpool will not be paying more for less as they have been for the last 15 years.”
