Liverpool Labour in Chaos

Less than a week after a Senior Lib Dem Councillor called out the poor attendance of some Labour Councillors, two will no longer sit as Labour Councillors

Democratic Services at Liverpool City Council has today notified councillors that Thomas Logan and Sarah Doyle “are no longer to be treated as members of the Labour Group with immediate effect.”

However, Cllr Elizabeth Hayden and Cllr Collette Goulding remain members of the Labour Group. The Liberal Democrats have repeatedly called on the Labour Party to remove the whip from Cllr Goulding and for her to resign in light of her connections to suspected fraud and investigation by the Charity Commission.

The longest serving Lib Dem Councillor Richard Kemp said, “Whilst I can’t claim credit for this, it would surprise me if the article last week in the BBC didn’t have an effect on the Labour Group. I wonder why the Labour Party wait until we force them to act?

“Liverpool residents deserve hard-working councillors who turn up to meetings, whether in the town hall or in their communities, and who are there to help their residents with casework.  I know in lots of places in the city, the Liberal Democrats are picking up Labour’s tab when it comes to casework. We are the ones out there working hard and keeping residents informed. Next year, voters in Liverpool face a clear choice: four more years of lazy Labour or a fresh start with Carl Cashman and the Liberal Democrats.”
