In the forthcoming Aigburth by-election, the Lib Dems have selected Dave Thomas as their candidate.

The by-election was called after Cllr Dave Antrobus made the decision to step down for health reasons. Cllr Antrobus represented the old Aigburth ward from 1996 until 2004, and then the old Mossley Hill ward from 2004 until 2008, before returning to the council in 2023 as the councillor for the newly reformed Aigburth ward.

Dave Thomas is a former manager of a recruitment agency and is currently the Chair of the Mossley Hill Residents' Association. He has been active across the community in South Liverpool. Dave Thomas has said his top priority is carrying on Cllr Antrobus’s hard work for residents.

Cllr Dave Antrobus said:

“It’s not a decision I thought I would have to make, but I am glad that I have a great successor in Dave Thomas. It’s been an absolute privilege to have been a councillor over the years. I am giving my full support to Dave Thomas - after all, Dave is a name you can trust!”

Lib Dem Leader Cllr Carl Cashman has paid tribute to Cllr Antrobus for his years of hard work and dedication.  Cllr Cashman said:

“It’s been a great pleasure to work with Dave. His passion for the work we do and for this city is something we all should aspire to.”

Community Campaigner and Lib Dem Candidate Dave Thomas said:

“It’s a real honour to stand in the by-election. Dave has been an amazing councillor for Aigburth over the years. He’s leaving very big shoes to fill. I want to carry on Dave’s legacy of hard work and listening to residents' concerns. I’m already out there speaking with voters - they want another Lib Dem councillor to carry on working hard for them!”
