Lib Dem leader calls on Liverpool's Labour MPs to withdraw support for Starmer
Liverpool Liberal Democrat leader Cllr Carl Cashman is today (12 May) challenging Liverpool's Labour MPs, Dan Carden and Maria Eagle, to publicly withdraw their support for Prime Minister Keir Starmer and back a leadership contest.
After years of Tory failure, sleaze and scandal, people were hopeful things would get better under Labour. But following the Mandelson scandal, people in Liverpool have lost all trust in the government and in Keir Starmer.
Now Labour politicians are too busy fighting amongst themselves in Westminster instead of delivering for communities on the cost of living and the NHS.
The Liberal Democrats are urging Dan Carden and Maria Eagle to break their silence, stand up for the people of Liverpool, and acknowledge that the country deserves better leadership than this.
Cllr Carl Cashman, Leader of the Liverpool Liberal Democrats, said:
"The cost of living crisis is causing hell for families across our community in Liverpool, but this Labour Government is just navel-gazing.
"Enough is enough. Residents across Liverpool deserve so much better than this.
"While families struggle to pay their bills and wait months for basic healthcare, the Prime Minister's party is entirely focused on its own survival.
"Dan Carden and Maria Eagle must have the courage to say Starmer must go so the Government can refocus on delivering change and better services for Liverpool and this country."
