Lets clean up Liverpool

20 Dec 2022

Council action is needs to clean up our city, say the Liberal Democrats.

Across Liverpool, community groups and individuals are doing fantastic work, but are being let down by the council.

The Lib Dems recently uncovered that the council issued just one fine for dog fouling in the past year, and 10 fines for fly tipping.

A recent inspection by the charity, Keep Britain Tidy revealed litter, fly tipping & dog fouling was 3 times worse than the rest of the country.

“The council is not doing enough, and even regularly leave litter bins overflowing,” says Greenbank Park Lib Dem campaigner Sean Cadwallader.

“If your street has been cleaned recently, it’s probably been done by a local volunteer, not the council. We need action now.”

The Lib Dem 5 point plan to clean up Liverpool’s streets

  • Recruit enforcement officers to target hotspots & issue on the spot fines

  • Use mobile litter cameras, plus  existing CCTV, numberplate recognition cameras, and dash cams to catch offenders

  • Takeaways & bars should have a licence condition to keep the outside of their premises clean

  • Work with phone & cable firms to board up the space behind their equipment boxes, to stop litter being dumped there

  • A Community Pride scheme to support & recognise the great  work done by many volunteers trying to clean up our city
