“Leave our purple bins alone” as Liberal Democrats Slam Labour Council

Liverpool’s Liberal Democrats have hit out at Labour-run Liverpool City Council after residents across the city reported having their additional bins taken “stolen” by the Council, leaving many households unable to dispose of their rubbish properly.

Over the past few weeks, residents across the city have contacted Liberal Democrat councillors and campaigners, saying their bins had disappeared overnight.

This is a big embarrassment for Labour at a time when they are proving more and more that they are out of touch with the people of the city. The Liberal Democrats are calling for an end to the city’s poor cleanliness record under Labour and say that the city needs more bins, not less.

Cllr Carl Cashman, Leader of the Liverpool Liberal Democrats, said:

“People are understandably angry. The council are taking bins that residents have actually paid a fee for.

“We already know that Labour don’t listen to residents in Liverpool, but there seems to be a complete breakdown in communication from the Labour council here.

“The Council is coming for everyone’s additional bins in March, and we are calling on them to pause and think again about this poorly thought-through policy.

“The Labour Council needs to be cleaning up the city, tackling the rat problem, and improving recycling rates. If they think taking people’s bins away is going to do this, then they are badly mistaken.

“The way to start is by protecting fortnightly bin collections for purple bins, not moving them to once a month as one senior Labour Councillor suggested. An incoming Liberal Democrat Administration would take a long, hard look at how we deal with bins in the city, from our purple and blue wheelie bins, to communal bins in the terraced street, to the public bins. We’ll do it in consultation with the people of the city, not in spite of them.”
