Liverpool Lib Dems have discovered that the Labour Cabinet Member for Culture and other Labour Councillors have had a trip to London paid for by the Council to the tune of over £4500. While sipping champagne and chewing the fat, the Epstein Theatre in the City announced it closure due to the Council pulling its funding.
Lib Dem culture spokesperson Cllr Laurence Sidorczuk said 'how can the Council justify sending these Labour Councillors off to an award ceremony in London whilst one of our great theatres in left to fend for themselves.'
'This is another example of how the Labour Party in Liverpool has its priorities all wrong.'
'Along with Ben Elms I helped the team to create the Epstein statue in Whitechapel when the Lib Dem's ran the Council. How sad it is that we are so far away from those days under this Labour administration.'
Saving the Theatre would cost around £50,000 a year, a drop in the ocean compared to the tens of millions of cuts made by Labour due to their incompetence.
Liverpool Lib Dem Leader Cllr Carl Cashman said 'This is a slap in the face to those working hard at the Epstein. The defence cannot be that the Council needs representation at a London event. Send the hard working staff, the politicians don't need to be there.'
