It's time to fix Mather Avenue's dangerous junction
In June we saw yet another accident at the dangerous junction at Storrsdale Road Greenhill Road and Mather Avenue.
This time a police car was flipped over, and a 70 year old man left in a critical condition.
For a decade, Allerton councillor Andrew Makinson has repeatedly called for action and even worked with Liverpool University’s Urban Planning Department to draw up proposals to make this junction safer.
These plans involve closing the junction, opening replacement turning points further along Mather Avenue, and building a pedestrian crossing.
Last year Andrew took traffic engineers to witness rush hour traffic at the junction, and in April this year he used a debate in the Town Hall to again demand action.
“Despite almost daily near misses and minor accidents, we’ve been lucky there hasn’t been a major tragedy at this junction,” says Andrew.
“Unfortunately the council has used that luck as an excuse for inaction, demanding THREE people are killed or seriously injured before they will make fixing this junction a priority.”
Please sign Andrew’s petition below calling on Liverpool City Council to take action.
Mather Avenue Junction
We call upon the council to take action to finally make the Mather Avenue/Storrsdale Road/Greenhill Road safe for residents, school children, and the thousands of drivers and cyclists who pass through it each day.
They should immediately reduce the speed limit on this section of Mather Avenue from 40mph to 30mph, and allocate the money necessary to make this junction safe.
