Stop the Fireworks Free-for-All in Liverpool
Across Liverpool, residents are fed up. Fireworks are being set off not just on Bonfire Night, but at all times of year, often late into the night. This is not harmless fun:
Families are losing sleep.
Children are frightened.
Pets, older people, and those with health conditions are suffering severe distress.
Wildlife are literally dying of fright from these explosions
Fireworks are being used as weapons against the emergency services
Yet despite the impact, the problem continues year after year. National laws are too weak, and Liverpool City Council has failed to use its powers effectively or demand the stronger action we need.
The loud fireworks that are used anti-socially are illegally imported. It is a criminal offence to sell, buy or use these fireworks, but hardly anyone is ever convicted or fined.
To make things worse, Liverpool City Council have cancelled the traditional council run bonfire night events, resulting in more people organising their own firework displays.
Stop the Fireworks Free-for-All in Liverpool
We, the undersigned, call on Liverpool City Council to: 1. Tighten local licensing rules to restrict and better control the sale of fireworks. 2. Press the Government for stronger powers, so local councils can properly protect communities. 3. Work with the police and community groups to clamp down on illegal and antisocial use of fireworks. It’s time to put residents first. Fireworks should no longer mean year-round misery for Liverpool’s neighbourhoods. Sign this petition and back the call for action.
