THREE of Liverpool’s swimming pools mysteriously close over school holidays
Local residents reacted with dismay to news that yet another pool has been closed due to, “Unforeseen maintenance issues.”
The Olympic pool in Wavertree (built by the previous Liberal Democrat council) has been closed ever since a light bulb broke in April.
Amazingly, the council now plan to keep it closed until November after they found some damaged tiles. How long does it take?
And in August, the council decided to close the Peter Lloyd swimming pool in Tuebrook - initially due to a shattered door.
The Austin Rawlinson Centre in Garston closed in June for 3 months, leaving 3 council swimming pools mysteriously out of action.
“Throughout the school holidays, bored kids have had nowhere to go,” says Childwall Lib Dem campaigner Pat Moloney.
“Swimming is also a popular way for older residents to keep fit and healthy. Much of our city is now being denied the opportunity, unless they can afford expensive private gym membership.”
