Patients in Liverpool face cancelled operations and long delays at A&E as the NHS struggles through another winter crisis.
In December over 3,000 Merseyside ambulances were forced to wait outside Accident and Emergency units for at least 30 minutes.
Almost 1,200 local patients were left waiting in ambulances for over an hour. Many hospitals are now on high alert due to staffing shortages and a lack of beds caused by Conservative failure to invest in social care.
Uncertainty over Brexit has also led to over 10,000 NHS workers leaving to seek jobs elsewhere. The exodus of European health workers means there are now 40,000 vacant nursing positions across our NHS.
Local Liberal Democrat Leader Councillor Richard Kemp said: “Hospital staff do an incredible job coping with extreme levels of demand. They have been let down by a Tory government that does not care enough about the NHS to provide the support it needs.”
“Lib Dems raised alarm bells before last year’s General Election. And they were the only party with a fully costed plan get more investment for our health service. Patients in Liverpool are paying the price for heartless Conservative cuts that have no end in sight.”
“Only the Lib Dems have a plan to give the NHS and social care the extra cash they desperately need by putting a penny on income tax to raise an extra £6bn a year.”
The Liberal Democrats would put a penny on income tax to raise an additional £6bn a year, £4bn of which would be spent on the NHS and £2bn on social care. This would mean millions more for the NHS in our area, ensuring people get high-quality care when they need it.
I/we the undersigned support the Liberal Democrat campaign to get an extra £6 Billion of investment to save our NHS.
