Trade Union praises Lib Dem Council

Liverpool's Lib Dem run City Council has been praised in a report by the GMB union for being the best in the region for ensuring that ethnic minorities are represented in top jobs.

The report shows that  black & ethnic minorities account for 11 % of the top 5% wage earners in the Council.

GMB senior organiser Giovanna Holt told the Liverpool Echo "Some councils have made great strides in promoting staff from the black and ethnic minority communities to senior jobs."

"Liverpool City Council is an example of best practice and other organisations should learn from them."

Cllr Andrew Makinson, chair of the Council's Corporate Services Committee said, "All of these employees are there through their  own merit, but the Council tries hard to make sure that all employees have a level playing field."

"9% of Liverpool's population is from an ethnic minority so the figures are broadly in line with the local population, and proves the Council's commitment to everyone is treated equally."
