Labour, Lib Dem & Tory Councillors on Merseyside Transport Authority (Merseytravel) voted to take the government to court after the Government refused to hand over £170 million they had promised for the tram.

"Merseytravel, and the Council did everything they asked for, but the Government just didn’t want to give us the money,” says Lib Dem Transport Spokesman Councillor Peter Millea.

The Labour Chairman of Merseytravel, Councillor Mark Dowd said, “I don’t blame the Lib Dems!... The Government have acted dishonourably.”
