ENVIRONMENT AND TRANSPORT CONFERENCE IN LIVERPOOL A SUCCESS

The national Local Government Association Liberal Democrat Group held a one day Environment and Transport: Local Solutions conference at the newly refurbished Isla Gladstone Conservatory in Stanley Park, North Liverpool on Wednesday, 7th October.

Delegates from across the country came to swap best practice examples, and to listen to speakers such as Lord Redesdale and Mark Hunter MP, both from the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Transport team, and the Environment Manager Andrew Dutton from Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

During the afternoon there was a best practice tour of Liverpool, including seeing the Liverpool South Parkway, the Rotters Community Composting Scheme in Garston and also going to the FRC Group headquarters in Brunswick Business Park, where delegates were given a talk and watched a short film about the popular Bulky Bobs scheme.

Councillor Berni Turner, Executive Member for the Environment said:

“I’m really pleased the conference went so well.  It was great to meet other Councillors interested in the environment and transport and be able to swap good ideas.

“I am also thrilled with the number of positive remarks made about our city, and about the fantastic progress we have made on environmental and transport issues, not only as a Council, but also in our schools and local communities.”
