ALCOHOL AND FAST FOOD ADVISORY PANEL TO BE SET UP

Deputy Leader of Liverpool City Council Councillor Flo Clucas proposed today, at the Executive Board meeting, that an advisory panel should be set up to look at alcohol and fast food outlets and their effect on people in our local communities.

The proposal is supported by Councillor Ron Gould, Executive member for Health, and the Primary Care Trust.  It was agreed by the Executive Board.

Councillor Flo Clucas said:

“In my ward recently, I have had numerous applications for permission to sell alcohol until early hours in the morning.  All of these applications are all concentrated on one small area of my ward.

“I have called for this advisory panel to be set up so that we can monitor the effects that these outlets have on our local communities.  This is to ensure that the quality of life for local residents is not affected by noise or litter pollution.

“It is also to monitor the effects on obesity and damaged health that fast food and alcohol can potentially cause.

“As a Council, we must strive to strike a fair balance between encouraging local business and also maintaining clean, safe and healthy local communities.”
