Top up Fees - Labour walk out Labour councillors walked out of a special council meeting on top up fees tonight refusing to take part in the debate. Labour councillors walked out of a special council meeting on top up fees tonight (3 March) refusing to take part in the debate. Liverpool City Councillors heard from student representatives before beginning discussions of a motion opposing top up fees and calling on Liverpool MPs to vote against. Labour representatives left towards the beginning of the meeting, failing to vote against fees or to listen to the arguments. The Council voted against fees and called on Liverpool's Laboour MPs to do their bit by voting against when the topic is next debated in Parliament. Says Wavertree Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson Colin Eldridge: " It will only take three MP s to change their vote for the top up fees proposal to fall. Three of Liverpool's MPs, Maria Eagle, Jane Kennedy and Louise Ellman voted in favour last time. If they will only listen to students and parents and change their vote, we can stop tuition fees in their tracks" . You can find out more about the campaign at www.scraptuitionfees.com
