Councillor Joan Lang

Tributes have been pouring for Councillor Joan Lang who died just seven weeks after finishing her term aActive Images Lord Mayor of Liverpool.

Joan had been a Councillor for Warbreck ward since 1984 and served with her husband and fellow Councillor, Joe Lang, until his death in 1998.

Lib Dem Councillor Lib Dem Leader of Liverpool City Council Warren Bradley said: "Joan will be sorely missed. She was a long-serving Warbreck councillor who took her ward responsibilities extremely seriously. As Lord Mayor she was unsurprisingly a fantastic ambassador for the city as she was a wonderful person and a great friend."

"Joan always worked for the greater good of Liverpool and her passing is a huge loss to the Liberal Democrats and to Liverpool City Council, and a huge loss to the whole city."

"Her passing leaves a void in the Town Hall which will be impossible to replace."

Liverpool's Lord Mayor Councillor Paul Clark said: "This is a great shock and very unexpected so soon after she had been such a marvellous Lord Mayor for the past 12 months.

"Joan was loved by people wherever she went. She had the magic touch and could make people feel completely at ease and was a great conversationalist. She will be greatly missed."
