2010 local Elections

The next Local Election is in May 2010.

To be able to vote you need to be on the electoral roll. The Council updates its list every year, but you can register at any time. If you have just moved or are new to Liverpool and are not sure if you are on the list, you can contact electoral services at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

You can also register to vote by post. You don't need a special reason any more but you do need to fill in a form.

 

2008 local Elections

The Liberal Democratsretained control of Liverpool City Council for the 10th year

 Across the Country, the Liberal Democrats beat Labour into 3rd place.

Yet again the Conservatives failed to come close to winning any seats in Liverpool - and the City remains a Tory free zone.

2007 local Elections

The Liberal Democrats won 15 out of 30 seats up for election and 42% of the vote across Liverpool.

 Labour won 13 seats and other parties won 2 seats.

Yet again the Conservatives failed to come close to winning any seats in Liverpool - and the City remains a Tory free zone.

2006 local Elections

On June 10th 2006 the Liberal Democrats won 17 out of 30 seats up for election, and narrowly missed out on two more.

Labour won 12 seats with other parties winning one.

Yet again the Conservatives failed to even come close to winning any council seats in Liverpool.

2005 General Election

Labour majorities across Liverpool where slashed in the General Election, proving that Labour can no longer afford to take Liverpool for granted.

The Liberal Democrats again came second in every Liverpool Constituency, proving that the Lib Dems are the real alternative to Labour.

2004 "All Up" Election
On June 10th 2004 every Councillor in Liverpool was up for election in 30 new wards, with the European Election on the same day.

The Liberal Democrats won 60 out of 90 seats (narrowly missing out on 8 other seats) gaining a mandate to run Liverpool for another two years, despite a chaotic all postal vote election designed to help Labour win.

In the European Election, the Liberal Democrats gained a second MEP in the North West, in Sajjad Karim who joins former Liverpool Councillor Chris Davies in the European Parliament.

2003 Election Report


On the 1st of May the people of Liverpool gave a big vote of confidence in the Liberal Democrat administration.

The Lib Dems won 21 out of 34 council seats up for election, gaining two wards including the deputy leader of the Labour Group, Oliver Martins in Netherley Ward.

2002 Election Report
Thank you to the 47,000 of you who voted Liberal Democrat in Liverpool in May's local elections.

We won 20 of the 35 seats up for election this year and gained 50% of the vote across the City.


Liverpool City Council now has 66 Lib Dem Councillors, 26 Labour, 3 Ward Labour, 2 Independent and 2 Liberals .
